E-SAFETY WORKSHOP

On Monday Deborah from Thrive Academy facilitated KS2 workshops to help our children understand the importance of keeping themselves safe online. They participated in a variety of fun and interactive group activities throughout the afternoon. This was followed up by a very informative session to educate and support parents in building digital resilience in the online world.

Many thanks to Deborah and the parents for attending this very worthwhile event. Keep an eye on our School App for follow up support and information.

CHARLIE MACKESY VIDEO CALL
WOW!!! What an amazing day our Primary Five class had on Thursday. They received a video call from the one and only Charlie Mackesy and his friend Colm. Charlie is the famous author and illustrator of the book, The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse. This book was on The Sunday Times bestseller list for 100 weeks and has also been made into a wonderful animation which is shown on Christmas Day.
The children had the privilege of meeting his dog Barney, who stole the show. Charlie gave the kids a tour of his studio and he explained the creative process he went through, to produce the final draft of the book.
Charlie celebrated the illustrations and quotes the children had sent to him, which were all inspired by his book. He congratulated everyone on their ‘absolutely spectacular work.’ He especially loved the work from Roise and Bryan.
The quote chosen for the day in Primary Five was 'So Much Beauty We Need to Look After.' This was the perfect quote, as we had a beautiful blanket of snow. Our playground looked like a scene from the animation.
We wish to express our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Charlie and Colm for giving up their precious time to contact us.
Thank you also to Mrs O’Kane for providing such a wonderful topic for the Primary 5 children and for giving them this amazing experience.

FOUNDATION STAGE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

The Foundation Stage were making bird houses that had a door which opened and closed. We explored the different shaped doors and which one was best for the birds and why. We talked about the shape of the roof and then did a fair test to investigate which materials were waterproof. We predicted and experimented whether plastic, tin foil, paper or cardboard was the best material. We found out that the plastic and tin foil were waterproof and the paper and cardboard were not. We had fun finding out!
