WELCOME TO PRIMARY 6

ON OUR DOORSTEP

Our topic is ‘On our Doorstep’ where we are learning all about our local community. We went on a class field trip to visit Dooey’s Cairn, an ancient neolithic burial ground in Dunloy. We really enjoyed the walk to Dooey’s Cairn and on our way we recognised the townland signs as well as seeing some of our houses along the way. We then learned about Dooey’s Cairn and what life was like for those who used this site. We also took the opportunity to develop our measuring skills by measuring the height of the stones. We measured the perimeter of the whole site…that was a big task but we mastered it by working together as a team!

A special word of thanks has to go to Mrs McAlonan who joined us on this trip. Mrs McAlonan taught us all about Dooey’s Cairn and shared many stories with us about both Dooey’s Cairn and the local area. We loved hearing and learning all about our special community.

GREEN DAY

P6 looking proudly wearing their green to support our hurlers and camogs.

LORETO - WEST SIDE STORY

On Monday 14 October P6 had the pleasure of watching 'West Side Story' in Loreto College. We had a wonderful morning and were so proud of St. Joseph's past pupils who were, in our eyes, the stars of the show! Thank you for inviting us.

MATHS WEEK

Problem solving using hurls - we solved various puzzles using hurls. This involved working well as part of a team, thinking and taking risks. All skills of good mathematicians, hurlers and camogs!

MENTAL HEALTH AWRENESS DAY

We celebrated Mental Health Awareness Day by coming to school wearing bright clothes. We started our day by listening to calming, mindful music while completing mindful activities. We went outside for a lovely walk around the hurling pitch and when we came back, we were treated to some juice and biscuits. We had a lovely day!

OUTDOOR MATHS

We went outside to investigate measure. We have been learning all about conversations of length so we used measuring tools to make lines of converted lengths. We then estimated what real life objects would be the length of the lines we drew.

HALLOWEEN

LIBRARY VISIT

We went to visit Ballymoney Library where we learnt a lot of information about libraries all over Northern Ireland. We got to explore the range of books and listened to some interesting stories.

ODD SOCKS DAY

We celebrated Odd Socks Day on Tuesday 12 November.

FOOTBALL

We have two football stars in our classroom. These girls were awarded Under 9 and Under 10 Players of the Year for Ballymena United. We are very proud of both girls!
