WELCOME TO PRIMARY 5/6
OUTSIDE LEARNING
We had great fun outside playing mental maths and spelling games.
NURSE VISIT
Primary 5/6 had the amazing opportunity to listen to Kirsty Kearns, who told us all about her job, as a nurse in Causeway hospital. We found out lots of facts about the skeleton and what happens if a bone is broken. Kirsty demonstrated how to put a cast on and told us about the chemical reaction that occurs, with the material that is used. We were all amazed at how the drill worked to take off the cast and even more so when we touched it and found it was actually tickly. Thank you Kirsty for giving the children such a great experience.
DIETITIAN VISIT
Primary 5/6 had a wonderful visit today from Charlotte Mc Camphill who works as a dietitian in Antrim hospital. Charlotte talked to us about sugar and the effect it has on the body. We were all very surprised to see how much sugar is in different types of cereal, coke and sweets. We loved the practical activity of sorting foods on to the Eatwell Plate. With all the information we now know, we are looking at our diets and are trying to keep them as healthy as possible. Thank you to Charlotte for taking the time to visit us and for giving us a fantastic insight into having a healthy diet.
MENTAL HEALTH DAY
We celebrated Mental Health Day in a variety of ways. We completed our breathing exercises and positive affirmations that we always do daily. We listened to the book The Colour Monster and discussed how we can have different emotions at different parts of the day and this is normal. However, when we have lots of emotions all at the one time, we become out of sorts and muddled up. We took each emotion and put it into its own special jar. This helped us understand each one better. We finished the day by watching Inside Out which is all about emotions and we can’t forget the juice and biscuits.
CANTEEN HEALTHY EATING
As part of our topic 'Mighty Me' we have been looking at ways to keep our body healthy. The canteen staff invited us to support the Healthy Eating Week, by allowing us to colour in a poster for display. We loved having this opportunity and we absolutely loved the sweet treat we were given on Monday. We all need a little sugar in our diet!!!! Thanks to Linda, Judith and Patricia.
WORLD MATHS DAY
Primary 5/6 had lots of fun investigating 2D and 3D shape. Have a look at what we made.
